
Frank Condon |
Frank is the founding Artistic Director of River Stage, one of the founders of The League of Sacramento Theatres, a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, and a member of the Dramatist’s Guild.
He is the recipient of many honors, including a National Endowment for the Arts director's fellowship and Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle awards for both directing and playwriting. He was granted the Mayor and County Supervisors' Fellowship Award by the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission for "a lifetime contribution to the field on a national level." directors of the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles, he directed several highly successful productions of new plays and was instrumental in creating the Odyssey's international reputation for exciting theatre.
Frank was staff director at the Mark Taper Forum and has been guest director in several other major regional theatres around the country. He is a published playwright and has directed many inaugural productions to open California theatres, including being invited by Luis Valdez to direct the first play in El Teatro Campesino's home theatre in San Juan Bautista. He worked with Garry (Doonesbury) Trudeau on highly successful runs of Trudeau’s Rap Master Ronnie, which he directed in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Toronto.
The Chicago Conspiracy Trial, which Frank co-wrote and directed, received five Los Angeles Drama Critics’ Awards in its original production at the Odyssey Theatre. He directed a revival of the play there in late 2007. He is co-author, with Tom Hayden and Ron Sossi, of Voices of the Chicago Eight: A Generation on Trial, which was recently released by City Lights Publishing. He directed the original production of McCarthy at the Odyssey and later staged it for the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre. He also directed the original production of Mark Medoff’s The Majestic Kid at the Denver Center Theatre Company. The professional schools with which he has been affiliated include the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Dell'Arte School of Comedy. He was a Visiting Associate Professor at UCLA; a guest artist/professor at USC, UCSD, and other major colleges and universities; and is currently Professor of Theatre at Cosumnes River College.
